The IB-GPA dual-tutor programme.
IB results open university doors, but the GPA underneath them is built week by week — in unit tests, homework and internal assessment, long before the final exams. This programme puts two tutors on that job: a lead tutor teaching in step with the school, and a second tutor owning homework, questions and error review between lessons.
Why GPA
What the admissions offices actually read.
Top US universities publish where their admitted students' grades sit, and the pattern is consistent: Princeton's admitted average is around 3.93, MIT suggests 3.5 with admits averaging 3.7+, and Stanford, Caltech and Harvard admits cluster near 4.0. Yale and Duke sit above 3.7. A GPA is judged on three dimensions at once:
Course rigour
How many demanding courses - IB HL, AP - sit behind the number, and what they scored.
Trend
A rising curve reads better than a strong start that fades. Semester-by-semester consistency is the point of managing GPA early.
School context
The same number carries different weight from different schools - which is why the work has to happen inside the school's own assessment, not around it.
The three modules

Subject foundation
The lead tutor teaches in step with the school's progression - mathematics, sciences, economics and the rest - previewing or consolidating each week's core concepts so unit tests and term exams land on solid ground.
Homework and assessment
The second tutor owns the week's hardest assignments, error analysis and unlimited subject questions - because process marks are a real share of the grade, and homework is where gaps show first.
Exam sprint
Before each midterm and final: syllabus mapping, past-paper teaching, technique, and full timed mocks with deep paper analysis - so the exam is a performance of something rehearsed.
How a week runs
A closed loop, not a drop-in class.
Learn in the weekly lesson, practise in the homework, get it marked and explained, review what failed — the loop the programme is named for.
- Core weekly lesson
- Once a week, two hours, one-to-one and live, at a time chosen within the week. Synced to the student's own school progression.
- After the lesson
- Immediate practice on the week's material, so progress is measured while it is fresh.
- Between lessons
- The assistant tutor handles assignment help, marking and error analysis, with no cap on subject questions.
- Before exams
- A mock package at each midterm and final: full timed papers plus a written analysis of exactly where marks were lost.
- Beyond the subjects
- The programme watches the whole diploma - subjects, core components and CAS - not a single grade in isolation.

What is GPA, and why does it matter this much?
Grade Point Average, usually on a 4.0 scale, is the quantified record of a student's academic performance. It is a core screen for university admission, scholarships and later opportunities, because it shows sustained ability rather than one good day.
How high does it need to be for a top university?
Leading universities typically look for 3.5+ on a 4.0 scale, with competitive programmes nearer 3.7+. None of it is absolute - course rigour, school context, test scores and the rest of the application are weighed together.
Grades dipped early - can it be recovered?
Yes, and the mechanism is the trend: a clearly rising curve in later semesters is read generously. The earlier the structured work starts, the more of the curve is left to rise.
Who teaches it?
Tutors from Hanlin's IB team - the same faculty profiled on the IB page, spanning mathematics, sciences, economics and computing, most with College Board or IB accreditation alongside their subject degrees.
How is this different from ordinary IB tutoring?
Ordinary tutoring is a lesson. This is a managed loop with two tutors and defined coverage of homework, assessment and exams - built for students whose goal is the transcript, not one subject.
